A little bit about me...
I am currently working towards a degree in Secondary Education with a major in English and a minor in Communications at Western Michigan University.
I have a great loving support system consisting of my parents and younger brother. Growing up they have always been my rock and my go-to people. I grew up in Rochester Hills, Michigan, which is located on the East side of Michigan approximately 45 minutes north of Detroit. In second grade my dad moved my family to Sao Paulo, Brazil. We lived there for several years due to the transfer in my father's job. Living in Brazil was amazing, and I throughly enjoyed learning the Brazilian culture. Moving back to the United States was a huge change, but I was excited to be close by my extended family again. I immediately started figure skating again. Brazil's only downfall is that there is no ice! Figure skating has always been a hobby of mine and could not wait to get back on the ice. Figure skating has taken be very far and has made me the person I am today. I've also competed all over the United States in various competitions.
In high school is when I really took my skating career seriously. I reached a level I never expected to reach, and decided I wanted to compete like the rest of the skaters I trained with. Being a persistent older sister I a begged and pleated until my brother agreed to be my ice dance partner. Having a parter is a huge advantage in the skating world. Due to the sacristy of male skaters and pairs, coaches love to train this combination and put all their energy into making a wining team. Being a hockey player, Adam, was very comfortable on the ice, however hockey skates and figure skates are very different from one another. Training was very important to us, I recall waking up at 4:15 am and having my mom drop us off at the ice rink before school. After school, we'd return to the rink and spent additional hours practicing.
Spending so much time on skating was very natural for me, causing me to fall behind on my academics. Due to the constant training and a 12 month long season, caused me to fall behind on skills such as reading and writing. I wasn't confident in my academic abilities to begin with and always turned a cheek to them. I knew I was good at figure skating and focused my energy on that. Since I was ashamed of my academics I tended to push them away and focus on what I was successful at. Looking back, I never thought I would pick English as a major.
